It sucks when you walk into a gym, all pumped to workout and actually looking forward to a great sweat when you realize that all the gear you wanted to use is being used. If you’ve been an avid gym goer then you’ve seen this before but if this gym thing is new to you then so might this experience.
The first thing to keep in mind is that this isn’t an excuse to give up and go home. There are a few ways to go about it. First, be polite and ask someone who is on your bench, using the dumbbells you need or whatever if they are almost done. If they are polite back but say they still have a few more sets don’t be scared to ask if you can work in with them.
They will be impressed that you have your gym lingo and most people have no issues with this. If they do have a problem then it’s time to make some quick tweaks to your workout plan, if you planned on doing moves with dumbbells, is it possible to go to the cable machines and do them? Most moves can be done there and it might be fun to switch it up.
And what about upping the intensity a bit? If you normally use the 15 pounds for an exercise but it’s not free then woman up and grab the 20 pounders, you might just surprise yourself with your own abilities. Plus this is how yo get results, you should always be pushing harder, if you’re looking for a fat burning workout and thought you would be better off with a lighter weight think again.
Or if you were planning on using the barbbell use dumbbells instead… no harm done! And finally don’t let it get you all worked up. People around you will feel your nasty energy and not want to help you out in the future. It might be a bit of an inconvenience but it doesn’t have to ruin your workout or your progress.
